Branch 2: There is no consensus among the children interviewed and no clear pattern of a language problem with Mr. Leary.

Sub-branch 2-1: The principal should randomly select additional students from Mr. Leary’s classes to see if they report any untoward language. If there is still no consensus, he should speak informally with Mr. Leary about reports of inappropriate language from some students and ask if he knows why they felt his words were inappropriate. The talk alone should serve as a warning to him, as would a follow-up e-mail documenting the conversation.

Sub-branch 2-2: The principal’s additional random interviews yield a consensus that Mr. Leary used inappropriate language. All the possibilities of Branch 1 apply.
